World Environment Day 2021, Saturday 5 June: Celebrating Ideas, History and Theme
This
year, Pakistan in partnership with the UN
Environment Programme (UNEP) is going to host the World
Environment Day 2021. The theme of World Environment Day 2021 is ‘Ecosystem Restoration'.
World
environment day is celebrated worldwide in almost all the countries (more than
165 countries) every year on 5th June to encourage the
awareness on preserving and protecting the environment.

‘Ecosystem Restoration’ is chosen as theme for world environment day 2021 by United Nations
(UN).
Ecosystem is the interrelation and interaction of living
species with their non-living environment in a specified habitat. Life on earth
may be different in different environments from geological conditions and
therefore diversity related to different types of ecosystems such as
terrestrial ecosystem, forest ecosystem, grassland ecosystem, desert ecosystem,
aquatic including the freshwater and marine ecosystem and it can be called
biodiversity ecosystem.
Biodiversity
is
the variety of various living organisms present on earth and their interaction
and interrelationship. We can say as variety of life on earth is called as
biodiversity.
Humans
are also responsible for pollution and unwanted elements in the environment.
Biodiversity
conservation is very important for the sustainability of a healthier earth by
preserving and protecting species, ecosystem, and natural resources.

History of World Environment Day
5th
June is also called as United Nations’ flagship day and held
annually since 1974 for promoting worldwide awareness on environment
preservation and protection.
In 1974, UNGA (United Nations General
Assembly) declared World Environment Day in the opening of Stockholm
Conference on Environment.
This
day is also a foundation day of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP),
it is an agency that helps all developing countries to develop the environment
protection and preservation measure, targets, policies, monitoring standards
and thresholds.

World Environment Day logos, symbols, and colours
Human eyes are more sensitive to light with a
wavelength of approximately 555 nm, which corresponds to a green colour. Human
rod cells are more sensitive to the wavelength of green. Green colours
represent nature, it is the symbol of growth, balance, spring, rebirth,
prosperity, freshness, safety, harmony, fertility, emotion, and much more which
helps to refresh our mind.
Our eyes have three types of photoreceptor cells
called cones, which contain photographic pigments, which are designed to detect
wavelengths. Together, the cones work to communicate to the brain the colours
we see. During the day, our eyes can more easily capture green light.
The
word “Environment” is always represented by the green colour, the colour of
nature. Blue and green colours are the dominant colour of the earth. Blue
represent water and green represent nature/ greenery.
Therefore,
all the Environment logos are prepared with the combination of
green and blue colours.

Ideas for celebrating World Environment Day 2021, 5 June
The
main objective of the celebration of World Environment Day is to
spread awareness of the preservation and protection of the environment. On this
day, an awareness campaign is carried out on various subjects such as air
pollution, water pollution, preservation of marine ecosystems, the ban on
plastic, global warming, protection of wildlife, deforestation, etc around the
world so that the public can become aware and take care of the environment for
its sustainability.

the theme of World Environment Day 2021 is “Ecosystem Restoration”, here

Form a team to plan Environment Day celebration programs
It

Essay competition for employees,
workers, and children in community school
It is one of the best ways to educate your

Here, you must organize blank papers in A4 format
and distribute them on the day of the competition.

listed in the above competitions.
4.
Slogan competition on theme World Environment Day
This competition can be organized for all employees
and workers. The best innovative slogan would be selected by the judges and
will be declared the winner (1st, 2nd and 3rd). This competition can be
organized in different language categories.
The selected slogans can be displayed or painted on
the premises or organization of your company to motivate people and encourage

Conduct community awareness program on World Environment Day
Here you can take the help of your CSR team and run
the environmental awareness program for your neighbouring villages, including

This is a better idea for continuous awareness on
different environmental topics.
To do this, you need to prepare the PowerPoint
presentation slide for each day. Provide these ppts to your IT team to
configure them on the desktop of all computers / laptops. Since all computers
and laptops are connected to a single server in your company, each time a user
starts their machine, the desktop flash appears on the screen. It will
disappear at the first click. This way you can flash lots of messages /
information about the environment to raise awareness.
11.
Environment Cleaning activity
This can be organized by your CSR team. Identify
the area inside and outside your business premises, including the Sour Navy. A
group or team with all the other volunteers will do the cleaning activity.
12.
Tree plantation
It is a traditional activity to plant trees in your
business premises as well as in your neighbouring communities / villages. Your
company's management team should participate in tree planting activities to
promote environmental awareness. This activity should be specially organized so
that schoolchildren inculcate responsibility for a healthy environment.
13. Display of slogans and posters on Environment
It is the best way to create awareness about the
environment. Beautiful eye-catching posters can be prepared with slogans and
displayed in a conspicuous place. The slogan can be written in English as well
as in the local language. The poster should be such that if people cannot read,
they must understand the message by seeing the image.
